How much does an epoxy garage floor cost in Rapid City?
A standard 2-car garage in Rapid City (400-500 sq ft) runs $1,800 to $3,500 for our epoxy system with color flake and polyurethane topcoat. Polyaspartic systems run $2,800 to $4,500 for the same garage. Pricing is driven by square footage, slab condition, system type, color flake choice, topcoat, and detail work around drains and thresholds.
Is the quoted price the final price?
Yes. Every quote we deliver is flat-priced and written based on the on-site inspection. The price does not change at the end of the job unless the homeowner approves an add-on in writing first. We never deliver a quote and then discover surprise charges during install.

Do you charge for the initial quote?

Are there any hidden fees I should know about?
No. The flat quote includes diamond grinding, crack and pit repair, all materials, all labor, HEPA dust extraction equipment, cleanup, and disposal. The only items that can be added (with prior written approval) are aggressive moisture mitigation if a slab tests above standard tolerances and slab replacement if a structural defect is uncovered.
Install and Timing
How long does the install take?
Polyaspartic installs complete in one day — start at 7 AM, walk-on by 5 PM, drive-on the next morning. Epoxy systems take 2 to 3 days because each layer requires longer cure time between coats. Metallic epoxy installs take 2 to 3 days because of the hand-troweling and dual topcoat requirements.
How far in advance do I need to book?
Typical lead time in Rapid City is 1 to 3 weeks during peak season (April through October) and 1 to 2 weeks during the off-season. We sometimes have cancellation slots available within 48 hours. Box Elder military families with PCS deadlines can request expedited scheduling.
Do I need to move everything out of my garage?
Yes, the garage needs to be completely empty before we arrive. That includes vehicles, shelving, toolboxes, appliances, and anything else on the floor or attached to the lower walls. We can recommend local movers if needed, or you can move items to your driveway, a storage pod, or another part of the home.
Do I need to be home during the install?
Not the whole time. We need 15 minutes at the start to walk the job and 15 minutes at the end for final sign-off. The middle of the day we do not need you on-site. Most homeowners go to work or run errands and check back at the end of the day.
Can I drive on the floor that night?
Walk-on is typically 4 to 8 hours after the final topcoat. Drive-on (rolling vehicle weight) is 24 hours for polyaspartic and 48 hours for epoxy. Hot tires (vehicles that have been driven 30+ minutes before parking) should wait 72 hours on epoxy systems for maximum safety.
What if it rains or snows on install day?
We work in a closed garage with the door mostly down, so external weather rarely affects the install. The only weather-sensitive factor is extreme temperature, and our polyaspartic system handles down to -30°F. We rarely reschedule for weather and we always communicate proactively if we need to.
Do you need a power outlet for the grinder?
Yes. Our diamond grinders run on 240V power and we plug into the home's dryer outlet or, for larger jobs, run a temporary 240V drop from the electrical panel. We bring all necessary cords and connectors. We never tap into customer wiring without explicit permission.
Climate and Durability
Will the floor survive Rapid City winters?
Yes. Both our epoxy and polyaspartic systems are 100% chemically resistant to calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, road salt brine, and snowmelt. The freeze-thaw cycle that destroys bare concrete cannot penetrate the coating. We have polyaspartic floors that have survived 5+ Rapid City winters with zero damage.
What about hot tire pickup during summer?
Not an issue with our system. Hot tire pickup happens when cheap water-based or solvent-thinned epoxy is installed too thin or without proper concrete prep. Our 100% solids epoxy with a polyaspartic topcoat is fully cured chemically and has no plasticizer for hot rubber to leach. Zero hot tire callbacks in our history.
Will UV from sunlight yellow the floor?
Standard epoxy can yellow under direct sun exposure over 5 to 10 years (the polyurethane topcoat slows this significantly). Polyaspartic is 100% UV-stable and will not yellow at any timeframe. For garages with south-facing doors or significant direct sunlight, we recommend polyaspartic.
What about the calcium chloride de-icer the city uses?
Fully chemically resistant. The de-icer that destroys your bare concrete slab cannot penetrate our resin systems. The most common Rapid City garage failure pattern (pitting and spalling near the garage door from drip-melt) is completely prevented by a properly installed coating.
Can the coating crack during freeze-thaw movement?
Polyaspartic does not crack — it is more flexible than epoxy at low temperatures and moves with the slab. Standard epoxy can hairline crack if there is significant slab movement, but our structural crack repair and control joint filling prevent that in 95%+ of installs. The warranty covers any failure that does occur.
How long will the floor actually last?
Our epoxy system carries a 10-year adhesion warranty and typically lasts 10 to 15 years before needing a refresh coat. Polyaspartic carries a 15-year warranty and typically lasts 15 to 20+ years. Refresh coats are inexpensive (no need for full re-prep), so the floor remains durable indefinitely with periodic maintenance.
What happens if the coating fails inside the warranty period?
We come back and fix it at no charge. The 10-year (epoxy) or 15-year (polyaspartic) warranty covers delamination, peeling, chemical staining, and hot tire pickup. The warranty is transferable to a new homeowner one time, which boosts resale value if you sell within the warranty window.

Yes, year-round. Our polyaspartic system cures down to -30°F so January and February installs are routine. Standard epoxy installs in winter require heated curing (we bring propane heaters), which adds a small charge but is still feasible most days.
