About Our Polyaspartic Floor Coatings

Polyaspartic is the floor coating built for South Dakota. Where standard epoxy needs a 50°F slab and 24 hours of cure time between coats, polyaspartic cures chemically all the way down to -30°F and sets in under an hour. That means we can install a full polyaspartic garage floor in Rapid City in January and have the homeowner parking on it the next morning. No other resin system on the market can do that.

The chemistry is fundamentally different from epoxy. Polyaspartic is a polyurea variant that crosslinks much faster and at much lower temperatures than epoxy. It is also fully UV-stable, which means it does not yellow, chalk, or break down under direct sun exposure. It is harder than epoxy, more flexible (so it handles slab movement during freeze-thaw without cracking), and more chemically resistant to road salt, calcium chloride, brake fluid, and battery acid.

Our polyaspartic system uses a polyaspartic base coat with broadcast vinyl color flake, then a clear polyaspartic topcoat. The full system installs in one day: grinding and crack repair in the morning, base coat and flake broadcast at midday, topcoat by mid-afternoon, walk-on by 5 PM, drive-on by the next morning. For Box Elder military families who need a fast turnaround between PCS moves, or for any Rapid City homeowner who does not want to lose their garage for three days, polyaspartic is the right call.

Polyaspartic runs roughly 30 to 50% more than our standard epoxy system. For a 2-car garage in Rapid City that means $2,800 to $4,500 installed, all-in. The warranty steps up to 15 years instead of 10. Free on-site quotes within 24 hours, year-round installs including January and February. We coat across all of Rapid City, Box Elder, Black Hawk, Piedmont, Summerset, and Rapid Valley.

Polyaspartic Floor Coatings Questions

  • Is polyaspartic worth the upgrade over epoxy in Rapid City?

For most Rapid City homeowners, yes. The three reasons: one, it cures in cold weather so we can install year-round (epoxy cannot install below 50°F without heated curing). Two, it is UV-stable so it never yellows. Three, the 15-year warranty versus 10-year covers more of the home's ownership window. The roughly $1,000 upcharge pays for itself in lifespan and install flexibility.

  • Does polyaspartic really install in one day?

Yes. We arrive at 7 AM. By 10 AM the floor is ground and repaired. By 1 PM the base coat and color flake are down. By 3 PM the clear topcoat is rolled. By 5 PM you can walk on it. The next morning you can park on it. We have done over 100 single-day installs in Rapid City.

  • Will polyaspartic crack with the freeze-thaw cycle?

No. Polyaspartic is more flexible than epoxy at low temperatures, which is exactly why it performs so well in the South Dakota climate. It moves with the slab during seasonal expansion and contraction. We have polyaspartic floors that have survived 5 Rapid City winters with zero cracking.

  • Can polyaspartic be installed in January?

Yes. Polyaspartic cures down to -30°F. We install January and February floors regularly in Rapid City, Box Elder, and Black Hawk. The garage door stays mostly closed during the install, we run a small heater for worker comfort, and the chemistry handles the rest.

  • How does the cost compare to epoxy?

Polyaspartic runs 30 to 50% more than standard epoxy. A 2-car garage in Rapid City is $1,800 to $3,500 in epoxy and $2,800 to $4,500 in polyaspartic. The trade-off is faster install, year-round availability, longer warranty, and UV stability.

  • What about hot tire pickup?

Polyaspartic is fully cured chemically with no plasticizer and a Shore D hardness above 80. Hot tire pickup is physically impossible with this system. We have never had a hot tire pickup callback on a polyaspartic floor.
